It is a little arbitrary, but somehow appropriate, that our corporate year finishes in August each year. As the summer winds down and kids return to school, we take stock of what we have accomplished over the last 12 months.
Our client’s success
If you have engaged with our team on a project, you’ll know that we take our work personally and that we get as much out of our client relationships as we do out of our technical work.
That’s the number one reason that this past year has been incredibly gratifying.

Client Incentive Funding
The other thing you will likely recognize about our team is our ability tosecure considerable incentive funding for almost all of the projects that we deliver. Our clients are rightly recognized for their efforts in energy efficiency, decarbonizing and in optimizing their operations.
What does this mean in real dollars?
More than $3 Million dollars secured to support low carbon and high efficiency projects.

Decarbonization Retrofits
Converting an existing building’s energy system from fossil fuel to electricity is not an easy thing to do. It takes an ambition and commitment from the building owner and design team, to get it done.
We feel grateful to have had the opportunity to work on some of these projects and to present across the industry in a way that we hope will inspire other groups.
From an enormous high-rise complex to a 3-storey wood frame, we were challenged to apply different solutions to achieve the same goal.
Electrification and Net Zero
We draw a line in the sand on our new construction projects: No fossil fuel infrastructure in our base building design.
Living by this ethos for several years now has allowed us to focus on some very interesting projects and has pushed our design toolkit.
In contrast to retrofits, it is not hard to implement full electrification in new construction and we would encourage others to join in this effort.
Several of our projects are moving to completion and occupancy with some that will achieve Net Zero Carbon certification (CaGBC) and others, net zero energy.
Passive House Projects
Several of our projects, both retrofit and new construction, have been guided by the Passive House framework.
We expect to have our first certified project shortly, with several others in all phases of design and construction.
Everyone should expect to see a lot more projects in our region, which has traditionally led the Passive House landscape across Canada, especially given pressure from the BC Step Code and several prominent municipal governments.
New Opportunities
For the upcoming year, our mission is to accelerate the decarbonization of existing buildings across the industry.
This will include a focus on addressing embodied carbon in a more fulsome way with a close eye on the influence of refrigerants in our designs.
We need a movement of motivated organizations, working together, to make this happen.
